a letter to the community regarding 2021 programming

Dear Breasties,

What a year...

We want to begin by expressing our immense gratitude for you and this community. We were reminded that even when we are physically apart, our bond can withstand any distance.

None of us could have expected 2020 to be the year that it was. It was set out to be one of our biggest years of growth. We had big plans of bringing the community together with incredible events like our retreats and Camp and expanding our ambassador program to give you more dedicated local support. But then came the pandemic.

Knowing this community would need each other more than ever, we pivoted to respond. We ramped up virtual programming to help create a sense of community from afar. As a result, thousands of people affected by breast and reproductive cancers have been supported as they navigate a diagnosis or high-risk decisions. Breasties were able to meet others in similar situations, stay connected and feel less alone.

We want to thank you for pivoting with us. We know that zoom fatigue is real and that our virtual programming doesn’t compare to our in person events. But you stepped up. You showed up. And together we made the best of a really hard situation.

Looking ahead to 2021, things will continue to look different for in-person events, retreats, and local meetups.

The entire world has had to pivot and with that, we feel a high level of responsibility to do everything in our power to keep the community safe.

Due to the uncertainty still surrounding the pandemic and immunocompromised nature of the community, we will not be having any in-person events for the 2021 calendar year.

After consulting with our Board of Directors and various health professionals, we know that this is the best decision to ensure the safety of the community.

We feel confident that we can safely fulfill the mission of the Breasties through virtual programming. The Breasties will continue to be there as a consistent form of support through weekly Zoom meetups, Instagram lives, virtual panels and much more — with new, exciting initiatives kicking off in early 2021.

Programming might look different but the mission and heart of The Breasties remain the same. Bringing this community together is, and will always be, most important. For now, that may be from behind our screens, but we know that in creating these virtual spaces we are helping one another feel less alone.

Let’s continue to move mountains together.

Here’s to 2021.
Here’s to fresh mindsets and new friendships.
Here’s to even more connection and growth.
Here’s to the power of the community.
Here’s the power of each and every one of you.

The Breasties

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • Why did the organization decide to postpone all in-person events, cancel Camp Breastie and all wellness retreats for 2020?

At The Breasties, the health, safety and experience of our community is our top priority. Our in-person events are secondary to the health and wellbeing of the ones we love, which is you - our Breasties, our team, supporters, families and friends. After consulting with trusted healthcare providers, and our local, state, and federal health authorities, we decided it was in the best interest of the community to postpone and/or cancel these events.

  • Will there be virtual events in place of Camp Breastie and chapter meetups?

Yes! We really enjoyed hosting our very first Camp Breastie LIVE in June. Our ambassadors and community leaders are hosting dozens of virtual meetups each month.

  • Where can I find the Community Code of Conduct?

  • How is The Breasties supporting our community during the time of physical distancing?

Our Breastie community is stronger than ever! Ambassadors are hosting virtual meetups often - so look out for these on instagram. All Breasties, no matter the location, are welcome to attend! We also hosted our very first Camp Breastie LIVE in June and hope to do more large-scale virtual events to support the community from afar.

  • How can I support the Breasties during this time?

Thank you for thinking of us! We are a nonprofit organization and we rely on funds from amazing donors and supporters like you to further our mission.
All donations are greatly appreciated and will directly fund new virtual programming initiatives and 2021 retreats, camp and meetups. Facebook fundraisers and other online fundraising initiatives are welcomed! Don’t forget to add us as your charity of choice on Amazon smile!
